By the Boston Byzantine Choir
On this CD, Boston Byzantine Choir continues their work of recording traditional Byzantine chant in English. The recording includes well known Holy Week hymns such as the "Troparion for Lazarus Saturday," "Behold the Bridegroom," "Thy Bridal Chamber," and the "Lamentations." It also features some new and unique offerings such as "Rejoice, O Bethany" (a hymn for Palm Sunday from Palestine), "Out of the Mouths of Babes," and the rendition of the "Hymn of Kassiani."
The CD includes liner notes with an introduction by Fr. Anthony Hughes, and full hymn text in English.
Also by the Boston Byzantine Choir for the Lenten season: Lenten Journey (008509) and for Pascha: Thy Resurrection (007648)
About the Boston Byzantine Choir:
Since its inception in 1993 by Charles R. Marge, the Boston Byzantine Choir has endeavored to make Byzantine chant and the Orthodox Christian faith accessible to the English-speaking world. The choir grew out of the rich chanting tradition of St Mary Orthodox Church with The Very Rev. Antony Hughes, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The choir has sung at universities, parishes and music festivals throughout New England.
Praise for the Boston Byzantine Choir:
Whenever the Boston Byzantine Choir membership, under the masterful guidance of Maestro Charles Marge, produces a CD of God-inspired hymns, we are anointed with yet another taste of spiritual fragrance, as the liturgical prayer so confirms. This fifth CD offering...of Lenten hymns is a collage of spiritually acoustical hymns on the 'Pilgrimage to Pascha,' as Fr. Alexander Schmemann, of blessed memory, so proclaimed.
