Can a place and its creatures sense holiness? When St. Aidan walked across the land bridge, did something change? In this short, beautifully written chapter book, illuminated with black-and-white ink drawings, we discover what it means to be holy. The Island and Saint Aidan tells the unique story of how Aidan, called the "Apostle of Northumbria," met the Holy Island of Lindisfarne for the first time. We see a plover, a rabbit, and the island itself combat loneliness, fear, and judgment, and we learn how St. Aidan helps change the course of how they see themselves and what they will all become.

Praise for The Island and Saint Aidan
"Brandi Willis Schreiber’s The Island and Saint Aidan, begins in the voice of a magical island and not only describes flora and fauna but treats them as friends and even family. Of certain migrating birds she understands deeply their relationship: 'To go was their design. And to be here was hers….She loved being a home.' Here we begin to understand that this is a book written by a mother, for children of adventure, but also for other mothers and fathers and families. The book shifts perspectives/voices just as the tides and weather shift on the island. What I love about this story is that it cares for the sentence the way a naturalist cares for nature. The attention to detail, to sounds, to complexity and simplicity in one, to beauty, to nurture and care, these are all present in Schreiber’s prose here. Her writing brings you into the presence of the sacred." -John Poch, author of The Future of Love
"In her tender and poetic book, The Island and Saint Aidan, Brandi Schreiber does not talk down to children. She remembers the intricate inner lives they hold in their hearts. She knows the Spirit of God whispers in those places. This book affirms to a child and reminds the adult that we are shaped by Love. What a gift of a message to all!" -Shemaiah Gonzalez, author of Undaunted Joy: The Revolutionary Act of Cultivating Delight
