One Year with the Divine Liturgy is an all-in-one curriculum for Orthodox Christian churches, homes, and schools. Split in twenty-nine lessons, your students will learn what’s happening, why, and how to best prepare and engage in the very heart of our Faith—communion with Christ. Each lesson is split into three age groups to accommodate ages 5–18, with more developed lesson plans for the older students and age-appropriate activities to allow the use of one curriculum for all ages. The lessons are designed for both inexperienced and veteran teachers.

Though we attend the Divine Liturgy every week, there is much to learn about this amazing service that brings us face-to-face with Christ. Knowing the history of the elements and understanding the theological references builds in us more awe, love, and joy for both God and our neighbor. One Year with the Divine Liturgy is written from an Orthodox Christian perspective and has already been used successfully in Sunday school settings. It is accompanied by iconographic illustrations that help inform each of the lessons and activities. We pray that this curriculum helps you and your students expand your participation in and knowledge of the Divine Liturgy and allows you to incorporate what you’ve learned into your daily life as you continue to shine the Light of Christ.

About the Author: Jennifer Hock has always gravitated toward working with children, even from a young age. She has been teaching children for thirty-two years in a variety of capacities: church schools, daycares, and public schools, and she eventually started homeschooling her own children twenty-three years ago. She and her husband have seven children and have also welcomed many foster children into their home over the years. Through life’s circumstances of teaching in a special-needs classroom and then later attending many years of various therapies with some of her children, Jennifer has developed a deep interest in child development. In 2009, she started Illumination Learning, where she provides resources for teaching children about their Orthodox Christian Faith. She is the church school director at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Euless, Texas, and started developing lessons for all their church school classes six years ago at the request of her parish priest, Fr. Vasile.

About the Illustrator: Kaitlin Gallimore is a Huntington, WV-based graphic designer and illustrator. She was born and raised in Huntington, and with her husband, she raises their identical twin boys there. Kaitlin graduated from Marshall University with a BFA in Graphic Design, and is known online as The Meek Sparrow for her craft business and Orthodox illustrations. Kaitlin’s hobbies include being an avid houseplant collector—with a dedicated sunroom that doubles as her studio space playing the piano, guitar, ukulele and kazoo, and attending church with her family—which she loves and where she helps with feast day floral arrangements.
