An Orthodox Christian conference on issues of interest to those in the second half of life!
Thu, May 28, 2020, 5:00 PM – Sun, May 31, 2020, 1:00 PM EDT
The middle season of life marks itself in our experiences as an ending and a beginning. It is a season of change and realization and can be a time of great joy and great suffering. There are many questions to ask as we seek to reinvent ourselves, to stay connected with grown children, to care for aging parents, and to think practically about the end of natural life. We invite you to a weekend of thought-provoking conversation, worship, and good fellowship as we study the joys and trials that come to us as God grants us many years.
NOTE: Memorial Day is the previous Monday - May 25. The conference takes place after Memorial Day.
Speakers and sessions include:
Fr. Gregory and Kh. Frederica Mathewes-Green -- A Conversation for Parents of Adult Children
Fr. Joshua and Kh. Tamara Makoul -- Caring for Aging Parents
Bill Marianes -- Why Are You Here? How Do You Discover Your Calling And Live A Life Of Greater Significance?
Steve Kellar -- Managing Risk in Retirement
Dn. Mark Barna -- A Christian Ending

Who's Invited: Facing Forward is a pan-Orthodox event for adults. If you are not Orthodox, you are still very welcome to attend. This is an openly Orthodox event, but if you're comfortable with us, we're comfortable with you.
Roommates: There are three types of registration - one person in one room, two people in one room, and three people in one room. Please note that Ancient Faith is NOT able to find you a roommate. You are responsible for finding your roommate and arranging to purchase your registration together. The price listed is the total price for the room. It should be divided in half for two roommates and in thirds for three roommates. If you have registered for a shared room, please send the full name and email address of each roommate to Melinda Johnson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Food: Chef Tim at Antiochian Village will provide a delicious menu for us. If you are on a medically prescribed diet, please complete your ticket purchase here, and then use this link to request a special diet from Antiochian Village: https://www.antiochianvillage.org/special-diet-requests/
Driving: There is plenty of free parking at Antiochian Village, so if you're within reach, this is a great way to come.
Airports: If you are flying in, your best bet is probably Pittsburgh International Airport. There is a closer, smaller airport in Latrobe, but the only carrier is Spirit. There are also Amtrak and Greyhound stations in Latrobe, which is 20 minutes from AV.
Airport Transportation: Antiochian Village is 90 minutes from Pittsburgh and 20 minutes from Latrobe. Group airport transportation has been arranged from Pittsburgh International Airport to Antiochian Village on Thursday and returning to the airport on Sunday. The vans on Thursday will leave the airport at 2 PM and 5 PM respectively. The returning vans will leave Antiochian Village at 12:00 PM (NOON). Please consider the shuttle times when you book your flights. Airport transportation is a separate cost, not included in your retreat ticket; it is $95 per person round trip, and you must book directly with Allison Taylor at Antiochian Village AT LEAST 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO THE EVENT. Her email is email@example.com, or you can reach her by telephone at (724) 238-3677. The round-trip cost from and to Latrobe Airport is $40 per person, and this should also be booked directly with Allison Taylor at Antiochian Village.
What to Wear: This retreat is a come-as-you-are party! Please feel free to wear comfortable clothes. We will be celebrating Divine Liturgy together on Sunday morning, so please bring "church clothes" for that.
Questions: Please don't hesitate to contact Melinda Johnson at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
